The 8th Judicial District has implemented an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) program.

Mediation is available to all litigants in Domestic Relations cases on a siding scale fee basis. Certain consumer debt and probate matters may also be assigned to court-connected mediation with mediators under contract with the court. In addition, the Judges routinely refer all types of cases to private mediators.

Mediation is a process by which a trained individual (mediator) assists the litigants in attempting to reach their own agreement without the involvement of a judge or jury. The mediator may or may not be an attorney but may not give legal advice to the litigants. The mediator’s role is to attempt to assist the parties with reaching an agreement that is acceptable to all involved.
